Founded by individuals including Steve Schlarman, who brought his expertise from PricewaterhouseCoopers' advisory practice, the company aimed to help organizations strategically manage IT risk. Brabeion developed a software platform designed to provide a unified view of risks across people, processes, and technologies. The company secured over $10 million in funding across two rounds, with its Series B in late 2006 raising $5.1 million from investors like Birch Hill Equity Partners and Longworth Venture Partners. This capital injection fueled the development of its IT Risk & Compliance Manager platform, attracting major clients such as Chevron and American Airlines. The company carved out a niche by offering solutions that helped businesses automate and monitor compliance with regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and standards like PCI. Forrester recognized Brabeion as a leader in the IT GRC market in 2008, solidifying its position. The journey reached a significant milestone in January 2009 when competitor Archer Technologies acquired Brabeion Software, integrating its enterprise GRC offerings into its own expanding portfolio.
