The core of Bokio's offering is an AI-powered bookkeeping platform that automates many of the tedious tasks associated with accounting. Users can upload receipts and invoices, and the system automatically extracts the relevant data, suggests the correct bookkeeping accounts, and posts the transaction. This process significantly reduces the need for manual data entry and specialized accounting knowledge. The platform integrates directly with bank accounts, streamlining the reconciliation process. Beyond bookkeeping, Bokio provides functionalities for invoicing, expense management, VAT reporting, and the submission of annual accounts, creating a comprehensive financial management tool. Its business model is structured around a freemium service. The free version offers basic bookkeeping, invoicing, and expense management. Revenue is generated through tiered subscription plans – Plus and Premium – which unlock more advanced features such as priority support, advanced reporting, and integrations for salary management.

Bokio's strategic development includes significant funding rounds to fuel its expansion and product development. In 2020, the company secured €4 million in a funding round led by Creandum, with participation from existing investors including Svea Ekonomi. This was followed by a major milestone in 2021 when the Swedish banking group Svea Ekonomi acquired a majority stake in Bokio for approximately SEK 200 million, injecting substantial capital and strategic support. This acquisition allowed Bokio to accelerate its growth, particularly in the UK market, and to enhance its product by integrating banking and lending services directly into the platform, moving towards an all-in-one financial solution for its client base.
