The company originated from vQuip, an MGA founded by Serigne that focused on providing insurance for the adventure sports market, including jet skis, boats, and ATVs. vQuip developed a business-in-a-box solution for rental operators which included booking, compliance, risk management, and embedded liability insurance. While vQuip will continue to serve the adventure sports niche, Bluefields Specialty was launched to expand into new specialty insurance markets. The name was chosen to reflect the strategy of targeting "blue ocean" segments with limited competition using novel approaches.
