About Biopharm

Established in 1991 by founder Abdelmadjid Kerrar, Biopharm stands as a prominent Algerian pharmaceutical group. The company has evolved significantly from its inception, marking its entry into local production in 2005 with both licensed and proprietary products. A pivotal moment in its history occurred in April 2016, when Biopharm listed 20% of its shares on the Algiers Stock Exchange, a move that solidified its status as a private investment group. This followed a strategic opening of its capital in 2013 to a consortium of international investors, including Development Partners International, Mediterrania Capital Partners, and the German development agency DEG.

The company's leadership includes CEO Abdelouahed Kerrar, who holds a doctorate in medicine and joined the family business in 1995 after practicing as a surgeon. His journey through the company's ranks, from commercial and development roles to heading industrial projects, equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical business before becoming CEO. Biopharm operates a vertically integrated business model that encompasses the entire pharmaceutical value chain: manufacturing, importation, logistics, distribution, medical promotion, and regulatory services. The company manufactures generic drugs under its own brand and licensed products for international laboratories. Its clientele spans from wholesale distributors to individual pharmacies, served by an extensive network.

Biopharm's infrastructure includes four production units capable of producing over 104 million boxes annually across 18 therapeutic areas. It runs two research and development centers that have developed more than 200 products. Revenue is generated through the sale of these manufactured goods and distribution services. The company's distribution arm, comprising subsidiaries like Biopharm Distribution and Biopure, serves approximately 270 wholesalers and nearly 4,000 pharmacies across Algeria through a network of distribution centers and a large vehicle fleet. Beyond its domestic market, Biopharm exports to several African countries, including Mali, Niger, and Mauritania. The company has also expanded into dermo-cosmetics and food supplements with its OZE and Nutribio ranges.
