Bio Ritmo operates as a premium fitness chain in Brazil, positioned in the high-end segment of the wellness market. The company was founded in May 1996 by Edgard Corona, a chemical engineer by training with a passion for physical activity. His journey into the fitness industry began after experiences in his family's sugar refinery and a successful venture in the fashion business, which taught him the importance of understanding customer desires. An avid sportsman, Corona's vision for Bio Ritmo was shaped by a desire to create a modern, sophisticated fitness environment, a departure from the state of many gyms at the time. A skiing accident that required intensive physical therapy gave him a prolonged, immersive experience within his own gym, further sharpening his business perspective.

The company's first location opened in the Santo Amaro neighborhood of São Paulo. A significant milestone was the 1997 opening of a flagship unit on the prestigious Avenida Paulista, designed to cater to the corporate public with limited time. This marked the beginning of the brand's consolidation and expansion. Bio Ritmo's business model is centered on providing a high-quality, full-service experience. Revenue is generated through membership fees for access to its facilities. The company also participates in corporate wellness benefit programs like TotalPass, a platform that originated within its parent group, allowing employees of partner companies to access its network. Over the years, the parent company, Grupo Bio Ritmo, received significant investments, including a R$100 million private equity round in 2016, to fuel expansion. This group is also responsible for launching the highly successful low-cost gym chain, Smart Fit, in 2009.

Bio Ritmo provides clients with access to state-of-the-art equipment, a wide array of classes, and specialized professional guidance. The company has grown to over 30 locations across Brazil and Latin America, partly through strategic acquisitions, such as that of the Edge academia in São Paulo in 2025.
