Binhui Biopharmaceutical Co. Ltd. (Binhui Bio) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company established in 2010 by Dr. Binlei Liu, who was a key member of the original development team for the oncolytic virus drug T-VEC. Located in Wuhan, China, the company specializes in the research and development of immuno-oncology therapies. After serving as the chief scientist of molecular biology at a UK pharmaceutical company, Dr. Liu returned to China to lead the development of oncolytic virus treatments with enhanced efficacy.

The company's core focus is its oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 2 (oHSV2) technology platform, which forms the basis for its primary drug candidate, BS001 (OH2 injection). This product is designed to selectively replicate within tumor cells and stimulate an anti-tumor immune response, and it is being investigated for the treatment of various solid tumors, both as a monotherapy and in combination with other drugs. Notably, BS001 is the first HSV-2-derived oncolytic virus to advance to clinical trials globally. Since 2018, Binhui Bio has received multiple Investigational New Drug (IND) approvals from both the U.S. FDA and China's NMPA, a significant milestone for a Chinese-developed oncolytic viral candidate. Clinical trials for BS001 have shown promising results in treating melanoma, with a reported objective remission rate of 30% and a one-year survival rate of 93% in one study.

Binhui Bio operates on a business model that integrates research, development, and pilot production of its drug candidates. The firm has established its own cGMP pilot plant with multiple production lines to support clinical development and future commercialization. Beyond its main oHSV2 platform, the company has expanded its capabilities to include platforms for nucleic acids, proteins, and cell therapy, enabling the development of a broader pipeline that includes vaccines and treatments for chronic diseases. The company has successfully raised significant capital to fund its operations, securing a total of $158 million over four rounds, including a Series C round in April 2022. This funding is supported by a syndicate of investors including Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group, CICC, and Temasek's Vertex Ventures China.
