Belden - Sending All The Right Signals
About Belden
In 1902, in a small space in Chicago, a man named Joseph Belden started the Belden Manufacturing Company. His idea was simple: make high-quality wire and cable. The early days were focused on insulation for wiring, a critical component for the burgeoning electrical and telephone industries. Belden's success came from its commitment to quality and innovation in a world that was rapidly electrifying. The company established itself as a key supplier, and its products became integral to everything from household appliances to industrial machinery. A major turning point came in 1980 when Belden was acquired by Crouse-Hinds Company, which was itself acquired by Cooper Industries a year later. This period marked a shift, integrating Belden into a larger industrial conglomerate. However, the story took another turn in 1993 when Belden became an independent, publicly traded company again through an IPO, reclaiming its own distinct path. Recognizing the shift from an industrial to a digital world, Belden began a strategic transformation. In 2004, it merged with Cable Design Technologies Corp. (CDT), a significant move that expanded its portfolio into data networking and specialty electronics. This was the playbook: acquiring companies to build a comprehensive portfolio for signal transmission. Today, Belden is not just a wire company; it's a provider of network infrastructure solutions, connecting and securing the data that powers modern industry.
