About Beijing Lingtu Software
Founded in 1999 by Tang Ningzhe, Beijing Lingtu Software established itself as a developer of geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) software. The company focused on providing comprehensive solutions and IT services built around its proprietary software products.
Lingtu's business model centered on leveraging geospatial information data products and services. It utilized a combination of GIS, remote sensing technology, and LBS (Location-Based Services) positioning platforms to offer integrated solutions. The company's client base included fleet operators, government entities, and logistics firms, addressing needs within the smart city and transportation sectors. By 2012, Lingtu was also acting as an IT service provider, engaging in map data and geographic information service business for other companies.
The company's product suite was extensive, featuring various electronic map products, an agile GIS service development platform called Sm@rtMapX, and in-car navigation software systems. Lingtu also developed SISP spatial information service platforms, VRMap 3D geographic information systems, and GPS vehicle monitoring systems. These offerings provided online and offline location services across multiple devices, including portable gadgets, in-car terminals, mobile phones, and PCs, to facilitate transportation guidance and management.
A significant milestone in the company's history was a Series B funding round on May 23, 2006, where it raised $30 million from investors including Gobi Partners, AllianceBernstein, Georgian Pine Investments, and Oak Investment Partners. Following this, there were reports in late 2006 of plans for an initial public offering on Nasdaq or in Hong Kong by 2008, with an aim to raise up to US$150 million. However, according to market data, the company is now considered deadpooled.
