The story of Bake With Yen begins not in a boardroom, but in a small 720-square-foot shop in Kuala Lumpur. In 1987, founder Yen Khong Moi started a simple retail business to supply baking ingredients. For three decades, the company grew organically, a family-run operation expanding from its initial stores in Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Chow Kit to establish a reliable name among local bakers in both East and West Malaysia. The business had become a steady, 15-outlet chain, known as the go-to destination for affordable baking supplies for home bakers and professional businesses alike. But the playbook was about to change dramatically. In August 2017, the Malaysian private equity firm Creador saw an opportunity in the fragmented market. They invested RM57 million (about $13.3 million USD) to acquire a controlling stake in the company. This transaction was the catalyst for a new era of aggressive growth. With the new capital and strategic oversight, Bake With Yen transformed from a respected family business into a dominant market force. The company rapidly expanded its footprint across the country, tripling its store count in just a few years. Today, Bake With Yen stands as Malaysia's largest baking supplies chain, a testament to how a traditional business, when combined with the right strategic partner, can rise to a completely new level.
