About Babylon Labs

Babylon Labs (Babylon, formerly BabylonChain) is a Bitcoin infrastructure company building Bitcoin collateral solutions on the Bitcoin network. On LinkedIn it describes trustless infrastructure for native Bitcoin collateral and a focus on Bitcoin security-sharing protocols, with a vision of a Bitcoin-secured decentralised economy. Its infrastructure is meant to make native Bitcoin usable as collateral on any chain and in any application, supporting lending, stablecoins, protection, derivatives and real-world assets.

The company starts from a problem it states plainly: only around 3% of Bitcoin is used as collateral, on-chain and off-chain combined, compared with around 10% for gold and around 20% for ETH, because Bitcoin's limited programmability has meant taking on counterparty risk. Its answer, Trustless Bitcoin Vaults, lets holders borrow against their Bitcoin in on-chain credit markets without selling, wrapping, bridging or using intermediaries. The Bitcoin stays locked on the Bitcoin network in a self-custodial vault that the holder creates and activates. The first use case is native Bitcoin-backed borrowing, starting with Aave v4 on Ethereum, where holders post Bitcoin as collateral and borrow stablecoins, and the company reports it live on a public testnet.

Bitcoin Staking is the earlier product: holders lock native Bitcoin to help secure proof-of-stake chains and earn staking rewards while keeping full custody, with no wrapping, bridging or third-party risk. The site shows staking totals and a staking app, and the project publishes documentation, GitHub code, a research paper, a developer ecosystem, a community forum and bug bounties through security platforms.

Babylon provides protocol infrastructure for Bitcoin holders, proof-of-stake networks and lending applications, with users interacting through its vault and staking apps and builders integrating through its documentation and toolkit. It operates in the Bitcoin DeFi and blockchain infrastructure market, aiming to expand the utility of Bitcoin beyond a store of value.
