About AZZ
The story begins in 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas, when R. G. Anderson founded a company called Aztec Manufacturing Co. . Initially, the business focused on making electrical equipment to meet the demands of the growing oil and gas industry. A decade later, the company made a pivotal decision to diversify by entering the hot-dip galvanizing market, a process that protects steel from corrosion. This move laid the foundation for what would become its core business. In 2000, Aztec officially became AZZ Incorporated. A significant milestone arrived on March 20, 1997, when AZZ went public, listing on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AZZ. This IPO provided the capital needed for an aggressive growth strategy driven by acquisitions throughout the 2000s and 2010s. This strategy expanded its footprint in both the electrical and metal coatings sectors across North America. A transformative event occurred in 2022 when AZZ made two major moves. It acquired Precoat Metals for approximately $1.28 billion, significantly boosting its coil coating capabilities. Simultaneously, it divested a 60% majority stake in its Infrastructure Solutions segment. This strategic pivot reshaped the company, sharpening its focus to become a leader in metal coatings and galvanizing solutions for critical infrastructure.
