Axiles Bionics
Biomimetic Lunaris robotic ankle-foot prostheses for amputees
About Axiles Bionics
Axiles Bionics is a Brussels deeptech medtech spin-off from Brubotics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) that develops biomimetic robotic prostheses at the intersection of robotics, AI and biomechanics. Its flagship Lunaris is an FDA- and CE-certified robotic ankle-foot prosthesis designed to reproduce natural walking patterns for lower-limb amputees and is already used in clinical settings across multiple countries; the company is advancing a pipeline of next-generation smart bionic devices. Founded by CEO Pierre Cherelle, Axiles in June 2025 closed the first €6 million tranche of an €8 million Series A led and structured by PE Group, with the EIC Fund, Finance&Invest.brussels, private investors and management, to globalise Lunaris commercialisation and fund further bionic R&D (remaining €2M expected later). CAUTION: OOW launch ~2018–19 with clear 2025 Series A. Sources: Silicon Canals 24 Jun 2025; Axiles Bionics; VUB TechTransfer.
