Avvasi | Avvasi Inc, Waterloo Ontario Canada MoreLess
Established in 2008 by Mate Prgin and Alex Leyn, Avvasi Inc. operated from Waterloo, Canada, carving a niche in the burgeoning field of mobile video analytics. The company focused on providing solutions for mobile network providers to measure, enhance, and monetize the ever-increasing volume of video traffic on their networks. Avvasi's core business revolved around helping these service providers understand the network impact of new devices and subscriber usage patterns, which in turn allowed for better network expansion planning, subscriber churn reduction, and revenue maximization.
The company's product suite was centered on Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics. Its platform analyzed the subscriber's perceived experience with video content, breaking down video traffic by device, source, content, and network topology. A key offering was Q-VUE, a video analytics tool designed to provide actionable insights into streaming media traffic. In 2016, Avvasi released Q-VUE AI, which incorporated predictive analytics and automated anomaly detection, enabling service providers to proactively identify issues such as a sudden switch to encrypted delivery by major platforms like YouTube or service disruptions in specific locations. This technology, powered by the underlying XperiumOS software, aimed to make network monitoring more efficient by automatically flagging significant deviations from established traffic models.
Avvasi secured significant financial backing to fuel its growth. In February 2010, the company raised $15 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Celtic House Venture Partners and Tech Capital Partners, with participation from the Ontario Emerging Technologies Fund. This capital infusion was earmarked to accelerate the company's product release schedule to meet customer demand. Ultimately, Avvasi's trajectory led to its acquisition by NetScout Systems (NASDAQ: NTCT) on August 19, 2016. The deal, valued at $4.6 million, was a strategic move for NetScout to bolster its service assurance capabilities for video traffic over 4G/LTE mobile networks. As part of the acquisition, approximately a dozen of Avvasi's engineers and staff joined NetScout, integrating their expertise into the larger organization.
