Avanzanite Bioscience
Address critical inequities in patient access to orphan medicines
About Avanzanite Bioscience
Avanzanite Bioscience, founded in 2021 by biopharmaceutical executives Adam Plich and Anant Murthy, is a commercial-stage specialty pharmaceutical company headquartered in Amsterdam. The company officially launched in November 2022 with a mission to address critical inequities in patient access to orphan medicines across Europe. The name 'Avanzanite' is derived from 'Tanzanite', one of the rarest gemstones, reflecting the company's focus on rare diseases and underappreciated medicines.
The founders established Avanzanite to solve a significant challenge in the European orphan drug market: many emerging biopharmaceutical companies are unequipped or unmotivated to navigate the complex and costly process of launching treatments across more than 30 countries for small patient populations. This often results in approved medicines not reaching patients in need. Plich, the CEO, brings a wealth of experience from his time as a Vice President at Teva Pharmaceuticals, where he led European pricing and market access, and from running a boutique advisory firm for biopharma companies. Co-founder and Board Advisor, Anant Murthy, has a demonstrated track record in launching orphan medicines, having held senior roles at Argenx, Alnylam, Ariad, and Celgene, with deep expertise in market access and alliance management in Europe.
Avanzanite's business model functions as a first-in-class, fully integrated biopharmaceutical commercialization platform. The company partners with research-based biopharmaceutical originators through flexible, bespoke licensing and distribution agreements to unlock the full value of their orphan medicines. It acts as the centralized pan-European partner, managing the entire commercialization lifecycle, including market access, pricing and reimbursement, regulatory affairs, medical affairs, and logistics. This allows its clients—typically U.S. and other non-European biotechs—to efficiently access the fragmented European market without building their own extensive infrastructure. Revenue is generated through these strategic alliances. The company has successfully launched three rare disease medicines in its first three years, spanning nephrology, ophthalmology, and haematology.
In a significant milestone, Avanzanite secured €32 million in a Series A financing round in late 2025, its first institutional funding, led by MVM Partners. This capital is intended to expand the company's pan-European infrastructure, support product launches, and finance new partnerships and acquisitions. This followed a record third quarter in 2025, where revenue tripled year-over-year.
