Authentium
Security software enabling e-commerce by uniting users and websites in an end-to-end secured transaction environment
About Authentium
Authentium, Inc. operated as a security software developer, incorporated in 2000 and located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The company's leadership included President & CEO Douglas Brunt, who joined in 2001 and led company strategy and key alliances with firms like Microsoft and Google. A significant milestone in the company's history was the merger with Command Software in 2002, which brought in key talent such as Helmuth Freericks, who became the Chief Science Officer.
The firm's business model centered on developing and licensing core security technologies through Software Development Kits (SDKs) to major software providers. These SDKs covered a range of security functionalities, including antivirus, parental controls, and personal firewalls. In addition to its B2B focus, Authentium developed and marketed its own security products directly to consumers and enterprises. A key product was Command Antivirus, later known as Command Anti-Malware (CSAM), which was available for personal, small business, and enterprise use. This product line was a continuation of technology developed since 1983, with the F-Prot engine at its core, enhanced by Authentium's own research team. Another major offering was SafeCentral, launched in April 2008, which created a secure, isolated environment for online transactions to protect against identity theft and malicious software. SafeCentral was designed to link the user's PC directly to over 15,000 websites in an end-to-end secured environment.
The company's trajectory involved several strategic shifts and acquisitions. In September 2010, the Command Antivirus division of Authentium was acquired by Commtouch, an Israeli-based IT security company founded in 1991. Commtouch, which had major clients like Microsoft and Google, later rebranded as CYREN in January 2014. After the acquisition, CYREN continued to develop the antimalware technologies. Ultimately, CYREN announced its closure in February 2023, and certain assets were acquired by Data443 Risk Mitigation, Inc. in December 2023. It is important to distinguish this entity from a separate, unrelated Australian company also named Authentium, which was founded in 2017 and focuses on blockchain-based supply chain solutions.
