About Aurora Imaging Technology

Founded in 1999 and formerly known as Aurora Healthcare Corp, Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc. was a privately held company that developed and manufactured advanced MRI systems for breast cancer detection and diagnosis. The firm went out of business, but during its operation, it was based in Danvers and North Andover, Massachusetts.

The company's main product was the Aurora® 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System, which was the first and only FDA-cleared MRI system specifically designed for 3D bilateral breast imaging. Unlike conventional whole-body MRI machines modified for breast imaging, the Aurora System was built from the ground up for breast anatomy, with every component, from the patient bed to the CAD system and integrated biopsy tools, created specifically for this purpose. This dedicated design aimed to provide more accurate readings, detect cancer earlier, and reduce the costs and patient anxiety associated with unnecessary procedures.

Key proprietary technologies included Bilateral SpiralRODEO™ for high-resolution imaging, AuroraSPECTROSCOPY, and AuroraEDGE, an image enhancement technique to reduce artifacts and improve resolution. The system was designed to image both breasts, the chest wall, and axillary lymph nodes in a single scan. The company's business model focused on selling this hardware to leading breast care centers, hospitals, and imaging centers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Aurora also offered mobile MRI solutions and provided customers with marketing and reimbursement support.
