Audiotonix
A manufacturer of digital mixing consoles for the live, theatre, broadcast, and post-production industries
About Audiotonix
Audiotonix operates as a holding company, specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of professional audio mixing consoles, production software, and related products. The group was formally established in 2014 through the merger of three prominent pro-audio brands: DiGiCo, Allen & Heath, and Calrec. This strategic combination was orchestrated under the leadership of James Gordon, who transitioned from his role as CEO of DiGiCo to become the CEO of the newly formed Audiotonix group.
James Gordon's career in the audio industry began with a passion for music sparked by his father's work at EMI, leading him to train as a studio engineer. He later moved into a sales role at Soundtracs, which eventually became DiGiCo, where he ascended to Managing Director in 2007 before spearheading the formation of Audiotonix. His vision was to create a collective of independent, leading brands that could share technology and resources in the background without diluting their unique brand identities and customer loyalties. The management team also includes Chief Operating Officer Helen Culleton, who has been with the organization since the Soundtracs days of the 1990s and became DiGiCo's Operations Director in 2007.
The company's business model is centered on a multi-brand strategy, acquiring and nurturing established and respected names in the audio industry. This approach allows Audiotonix to serve a diverse client base across various market segments, including live sound for major concert tours and festivals, broadcast for television and sporting events, theatre productions, recording studios, and houses of worship. Revenue is generated through the sale of physical hardware and, increasingly, through audio software solutions and subscription platforms. The products are distributed globally through a network of over 400 partners in more than 90 countries.
Since its inception, Audiotonix has pursued an aggressive growth-through-acquisition strategy, consistently expanding its portfolio. Key acquisitions include Solid State Logic (SSL) in 2017, KLANG:technologies in 2018, Sound Devices in 2021, Slate Digital in 2022, and both Fourier Audio and sonible in 2023. This has broadened the group's offerings from high-end mixing consoles to immersive in-ear monitoring, microphone modeling software, AI-powered audio plug-ins, and location sound equipment. The group's products have been integral to major global events like the Super Bowl and tours for artists such as Coldplay and U2.
