Atrica

Telecom · Santa Clara, United States · Founded 2000

Atrica Inc. was a telecommunications equipment company established in 1999 by Avinoam Rubinstain, Zvika Bronstein, and Amir Lahat, all of whom were formerly with 3Com. The company operated with its headquarters in Santa Clara, California, and a significant development center in Tel Aviv, Israel. Atrica focused on the carrier Ethernet market, a rapidly growing segment of the telecommunications industry, by developing solutions for metropolitan area networks. The firm specialized in providing end-to-end Carrier Ethernet transport solutions, which were designed to lower the cost and complexity of data-optimized transport networks for service providers. Its product portfolio included a range of Optical Ethernet systems, such as edge, aggregation, and core switches, alongside a management and provisioning platform called ASPEN. These products enabled service providers to offer triple-play services (voice, video, and data) with guaranteed service level agreements (SLAs) and high network resiliency. Atrica's systems were marketed as a cost-effective alternative to traditional SONET-based equipment. The company's clients included service providers, competitive carriers, cable operators, and enterprises. By 2007, Atrica had secured over 40 customers, including notable names like Orange Business Services, KVH, and Optimum LightPath. Over its lifetime, Atrica raised approximately $180 million in funding. In late 2007, Nokia Siemens Networks announced its acquisition of Atrica for a price reported to be around $100 million. This acquisition, completed before January 1, 2008, was Nokia Siemens Networks' first and was intended to strengthen its position in the carrier Ethernet transport solutions market.
