About Atmos Corp.

Atmos Energy Corporation operates as one of the largest natural-gas-only distributors in the United States. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the company's core business involves the regulated distribution, transmission, and storage of natural gas.

The company's history traces back to 1906 in the Texas Panhandle. Through a series of mergers and business combinations, it became part of Pioneer Corporation. A significant milestone occurred in 1983 when Energas, Pioneer's natural gas distribution division, was spun off to become an independent, publicly held company. This entity was officially renamed Atmos Energy Corporation in October 1988 and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "ATO". Charles K. Vaughan was the first president, guiding the company through its initial phase of independent growth. Since then, Atmos has expanded significantly, partly through strategic acquisitions such as Greeley Gas Company in 1993 and the assets of TXU Gas Company in 2004.

Atmos Energy's business model is centered on two primary segments: regulated distribution and pipeline and storage services. Revenue is primarily generated through the delivery of natural gas to over three million residential, commercial, industrial, and public-authority customers across more than 1,400 communities in eight states. The regulated nature of the distribution segment provides a stable and consistent revenue stream. The company also manages proprietary natural gas pipeline and storage assets, including one of the largest intrastate pipeline systems in Texas, which serves other utilities, industrial clients, and power plants. This division, Atmos Pipeline - Texas, operates approximately 6,000 miles of transmission pipelines. The company's strategy includes substantial annual investments, approximately $2.9 billion in 2024, focused on modernizing its infrastructure to enhance safety and reliability.
