Founded in 2006 by Chetan Venkatesh, Atlantis Computing specialized in software-defined storage (SDS) solutions aimed at optimizing data center operations and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Chetan Venkatesh, a seasoned entrepreneur with extensive experience in data infrastructure, served as the company's founder, President, and CEO, leveraging his background in computer science to develop its core technologies. The company secured approximately $35 million in venture capital over several funding rounds from investors including Adams Street Partners, Cisco Investments, El Dorado Ventures, and Partech.

Atlantis Computing operated in the business productivity software and data center optimization market, catering to large enterprise clients, including major global banks and government organizations. The business model centered on selling software licenses that enabled organizations to pool and manage their existing storage resources—such as SAN, NAS, and DAS—more efficiently, thereby reducing the need for expensive hardware upgrades.
