ASV Global was a designer and manufacturer of unmanned and autonomous surface vehicle systems for military, commercial, and security applications. The company, with locations in the UK and the US, provided integrated systems that included platforms, payloads, and control equipment. It also supplied its proprietary ASView control software and hardware to other boat manufacturers for integration into their vessels. The company's core product, the ASView control system, enables autonomous and remote control of unmanned vessels. This system integrates data from various sensors like radar, lidar, and cameras to create a comprehensive view of the vessel's surroundings, allowing it to navigate, follow pre-programmed routes, and avoid collisions. ASV Global developed a range of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), from 10 to 42 feet, for diverse applications such as hydrographic surveys, oil and gas services, oceanography, and defense operations. Its client base spanned the defense, offshore energy, and scientific sectors. In September 2018, L3 Technologies acquired ASV Global for $94 million and renamed it L3 ASV. This acquisition was a strategic move by L3 to enhance its capabilities in unmanned maritime systems, including anti-submarine warfare solutions and integrated unmanned surface and undersea vessel (USV/UUV) operations. Following the merger of L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation in 2019, the entity now operates as part of L3Harris Technologies, a major global defense and aerospace technology company. L3Harris continues to develop and expand upon the autonomous vessel technology, serving as a prime contractor for the U.S. Navy's Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MUSV) program and the vehicle provider for the U.K.-France mine countermeasures program.
