Reinforcement-learning automation for analog IC physical layout
About Astrus
Astrus is a Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo company using reinforcement learning to automate the physical layout of analog integrated circuits—the manufacturing-critical step that still takes analog designers weeks of manual iteration. Founded in 2022 by CEO Brad Moon (analog IC design, University of Alberta) and CTO Zeyi Wang (deep RL), Astrus trains agents in physics-aware synthetic environments against foundry rules so schematics become optimised layouts in minutes or hours while integrating with existing EDA workflows. After a $275,000 pre-seed (2023) and a $2.4 million seed led by Khosla Ventures, Astrus closed a $12 million USD ($16 million CAD) Series A in September 2026 led by Caffeinated Capital, with Khosla Ventures, Garage Capital, MVP Ventures and RiSC Capital, to launch commercially in October 2026 and scale the Canadian team while building U.S. go-to-market.
