ARX Robotics is a German defense technology company specializing in the development and production of autonomous, modular unmanned ground systems (UGS) for military and commercial applications. Founded in 2021 by former German Army officers Marc Wietfeld (CEO), Stefan Roebel (COO), and Henrich Maximilian Wied (CFO), the company was born from their direct battlefield experience and the recognized need for reliable, scalable, and software-defined robotic solutions. Wietfeld, a mechanical engineer with over a decade in the German Army, initiated a research project on autonomous robotics at the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Munich, which laid the groundwork for ARX. Roebel contributes extensive operational and supply chain expertise from his time as an army officer and subsequent roles at companies like Amazon, eBay, and Grover.

The company's core business revolves around its hardware platforms, the GEREON and HECTOR series, and its proprietary AI-powered software, the Mithra OS. The GEREON series includes tracked UGS for rough terrain, while the HECTOR series consists of wheeled platforms designed for speed and long-range logistics. The key differentiator is the Mithra OS, an open-architecture operating system that transforms both ARX's new systems and legacy vehicles from other manufacturers into networked, AI-enabled, and autonomous assets. This software-first approach allows for the rapid modernization and digitization of existing military fleets, with the potential to retrofit over 50,000 NATO vehicles.

ARX Robotics primarily serves European armed forces, with its systems already deployed by six European militaries, including in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. The business model is focused on the direct sale of these hardware and software solutions to defense ministries and agencies, supported by a fully European supply chain to ensure technological sovereignty. The systems are designed for a wide range of missions, including battlefield surveillance, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, transport, and live-fire training. The company has demonstrated significant traction, having delivered the largest Western-developed fleet of UGVs to the Ukrainian army and secured a contract with the European Defence Agency.

The Munich-based startup has secured substantial funding to fuel its growth, including a Series A round that brought its total funding to over €40 million from investors such as HV Capital, the NATO Innovation Fund, and Project A. This capital is being used to scale production fivefold, expand into additional European markets, and further develop the Mithra OS.
