Arrayent
Cloud-embedded platform enabling manufacturers and retailers to connect their products to web and smartphone apps
About Arrayent
Arrayent, Inc. operated as an Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider, focusing on connecting consumer brand products to the internet. Founded in 2002 by Shane Dyer, and later led by CEO Cyril Brignone starting in 2015, the company established its headquarters in Redwood City, California. Arrayent's business model was centered on providing its 'Connect Platform' as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) to large consumer product manufacturers. This enabled brands to transform their traditional products into smart, connected devices, thereby fostering a closer relationship with their end-users.
The company's core offering was the Arrayent Connect Platform, a cloud-based solution that managed the complexities of device connectivity, security, and data management. It featured device and user management, cloud-to-cloud integration for interoperability with other third-party ecosystems, and robust data collection capabilities. Security was a key aspect, employing 128-bit AES encryption for data in transit and a flexible key management system. The platform was designed for scalability and reliability, hosted on redundant servers across geographically separate data centers to ensure consistent operation for global brands. Arrayent provided clients with software development kits (SDKs) for mobile apps, web service APIs, and developer tools to accelerate the integration of IoT capabilities into their products.
Throughout its history, Arrayent attracted significant investment, raising a total of $28 million from venture capital firms including Intel Capital, DCM Ventures, and Opus Capital. The company catered to a notable client roster of major brands such as Whirlpool, Maytag, Mattel, Pentair, and Chamberlain LiftMaster, helping them launch and manage connected products across numerous countries. A major milestone in the company's trajectory occurred in July 2017, when it was acquired by Prodea Systems, a Texas-based IoT services company. The acquisition aimed to merge Arrayent's strength in consumer product connectivity with Prodea's experience in carrier-grade IoT services for sectors like smart cities and digital health, with the goal of creating a unified, comprehensive IoT platform. Following the acquisition, Arrayent was integrated into Prodea, and its platform was later referred to as Tech Mahindra's Arrayent ConnectCloud IoT platform.
