About ArenaX Labs

Toronto-based ArenaX Labs, founded in 2018 by Brandon Da Silva, Dylan Pereira, and Wei Xie, operates at the intersection of gaming, artificial intelligence, and Web3. The company's core mission is to improve AI literacy and democratize access to AI development through engaging, competitive gameplay. Initially an indie game studio, the founders pivoted after discovering the potential to tokenize machine learning models using NFTs, which led to the creation of their flagship product, AI Arena.

ArenaX Labs has secured significant financial backing, including a $5 million seed round in 2021 led by Paradigm and a subsequent $6 million round in January 2024 led by Framework Ventures. This capital is being used to expand the development of AI Arena and the underlying infrastructure. The company's business model is multi-faceted, revolving around its game, AI Arena, and two core technology platforms: ARC, an AI gaming software development kit (SDK), and SAI, a machine learning competition platform. Revenue streams are anticipated from the in-game economy, including the sale of NFTs and use of the native $NRN token, and by licensing the ARC SDK to other game studios.

The primary offering, AI Arena, is a free-to-play, browser-based fighting game where players do not directly control their characters in battle. Instead, users act as coaches, training their AI-powered fighters through demonstration in a process called imitation learning. The skill of the player in training the AI determines the autonomous character's performance in player-versus-player (PvP) competitions. The game features an "AI Inspector" tool that allows players to see inside the AI's 'brain' to understand its decision-making and refine its strategies, making complex AI concepts accessible without requiring any coding knowledge. A Web3 version of the game on the Arbitrum mainnet incorporates NFTs and the native token, $NRN, allowing players to compete for rewards and creating a marketplace for AI models and talent.
