About Arecor

Arecor Therapeutics plc is a biopharmaceutical company that enhances existing therapeutic products to improve patient care. The company was spun out of Unilever in 2007. A pivotal moment in its history was the appointment of CEO Sarah Howell in 2015, who has a background in pharmaceutical product development and has since led the company's transformation into a clinical-stage entity. Arecor completed an oversubscribed Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange in June 2021, raising £20 million.

The company's core business revolves around its proprietary formulation technology platform, Arestat™, which is used to develop enhanced versions of existing drugs with improved properties, such as greater stability or convenience. This strategy de-risks development by using abbreviated regulatory pathways. Arecor's business model is twofold: it develops its own portfolio of proprietary products, primarily focused on diabetes and specialty hospital care, and it partners with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to reformulate their products. These partnerships generate revenue through development fees, and potential milestone payments and royalties from future sales. The company has collaborations with major pharmaceutical firms like Sanofi, Medtronic, and Eli Lilly.

Arecor's internal product pipeline includes next-generation insulin candidates, such as AT278, an ultra-concentrated, ultra-rapid-acting insulin, and AT247, designed for accelerated absorption. The company is also developing a platform for the oral delivery of peptides, including GLP-1 receptor agonists for diabetes and obesity. In August 2022, Arecor acquired Tetris Pharma, gaining a commercial sales and distribution platform and the rights to Ogluo®, a ready-to-use glucagon pen for treating severe hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes.
