Ardana Bioscience
Therapeutics for reproductive and women's health disorders
About Ardana Bioscience
Ardana Bioscience Limited was a biopharmaceutical company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, that focused on developing and commercializing therapeutics for reproductive health. Founded in 2000 by Ian Kent, the company aimed to address conditions such as endometriosis-related infertility and androgen replacement. The firm's business model was centered on acquiring and developing promising research, notably through an agreement with the UK's Medical Research Council's Human Reproductive Sciences Unit, which provided access to a pipeline of potential products.
Ardana's product pipeline included a testosterone cream in Phase III trials for hypogonadal men and a product named chronodyne for endometriosis-related infertility. The company successfully raised significant capital to fund its clinical trials, securing a Series A round of $20 million in 2001 and a Series B round of $32.5 million in 2003 from investors including MVM, 3i Group, and Omega Funds. By July 2008, however, Ardana Bioscience went into voluntary administration after failing to secure a buyer or merger partner to fund its ongoing drug development. The board concluded that potential licensing deals for its products could not be completed before its cash reserves were depleted, leading to the cessation of operations and the appointment of administrators from Ernst & Young.
