About Arbor Pharmaceuticals

Founded in 2006, Arbor Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The company was established by Edward J. Schutter, who also served as its President and Chief Executive Officer from 2010 until its acquisition. Schutter, a registered pharmacist with a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences and an MBA, brought extensive industry experience to the firm, having held senior roles at Solvay Pharmaceuticals and Sciele Pharmaceuticals. His career began in a small entrepreneurial pharmaceutical company, and he even owned and operated an independent retail pharmacy, providing him with a ground-level view of the industry.

Arbor Pharmaceuticals focused on marketing FDA-approved prescription products, carving out a niche in the cardiovascular, neuroscience, and institutional markets. Its business model centered on acquiring and licensing late-stage development products to grow its portfolio. The company commercialized a range of therapeutics, including products for the pediatric market, such as treatments for atopic dermatitis and otitis media. By the time of its acquisition, Arbor had more than 30 commercialized products. The company's strategy also included developing its own products, with a pipeline of mid- and late-stage candidates under development.

A significant milestone in the company's history occurred in September 2021, when it was acquired by Azurity Pharmaceuticals. The merger, backed by investors such as JW Asset Management and KKR, aimed to create a combined entity with increased scale and a diversified portfolio to serve patients with unmet needs across several key markets, including cardiovascular, central nervous system, endocrinology, and gastrointestinal sectors. Following the acquisition, Arbor became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Azurity, and the integrated operations continued under the Azurity name. Before the acquisition, Arbor had an estimated annual revenue of around $175 million.
