Aptiv
Formerly Delphi Automotive, global technology company that designs and manufactures advanced electrical, electronic, and software systems for the automotive industry
About Aptiv
What if the most critical parts of your car weren't the engine or the wheels, but the software and electronics that make it think? That's the bet Aptiv has made. The company provides the electronic "brain" and "nervous system" for modern vehicles, enabling everything from active safety systems to the industry's shift toward electrification and software-defined cars. Aptiv’s story isn't one of a typical startup. It was born from the legacy of the 20th-century auto industry. Its journey began in 1994 as a components group within General Motors, which was soon named Delphi Automotive Systems. For decades, Delphi was a massive, traditional auto parts supplier. The pivotal moment came in 2017 under the leadership of CEO Kevin P. Clark. The company made a dramatic pivot, spinning off its legacy powertrain division to focus exclusively on the future of automotive technology: high-tech electronics and software. With this move, Delphi Automotive rebranded as Aptiv, signaling a clean break from its past to focus on areas like advanced safety, connectivity, and vehicle architecture. This new focus was supercharged by strategic acquisitions, including the self-driving startup nuTonomy in 2017 and the intelligent edge software company Wind River in 2022. A major milestone was the 2020 formation of Motional, a multi-billion dollar joint venture with Hyundai dedicated to commercializing autonomous driving technology. Today, Aptiv stands as a key technology partner to the world's largest automakers. Having shed its old manufacturing identity, the company is now all-in on providing the core intelligence that will define the next generation of vehicles.
