AI-based robotic text automation for enterprises MoreLess

Applica develops an AI-powered platform for Robotic Text Automation designed for enterprise clients. Founded in 2013, the company specializes in automating complex, text-intensive work by extracting and interpreting information from unstructured and semi-structured documents, regardless of their language or layout. The platform's core technology is built on a proprietary, brain-inspired Contextual Awareness system and neural language models developed by a research and development team that includes numerous PhDs and AI scientists.

The company was founded in Warsaw, Poland, by Piotr Surma (CEO) and Adam Dancewicz (CTO). Applica's mission is to allow knowledge workers to move away from repetitive document analysis and concentrate on higher-value tasks. The technology mimics human comprehension, allowing it to be trained on new document types with minimal data by business users rather than AI experts. It serves a variety of industries, including finance, insurance, legal services, and media. Common applications include processing mortgage applications, insurance claims, legal documents, and financial filings. The business model was subscription-based, often implemented alongside robotic process automation (RPA) solutions to automate entire workflows.

After participating in the Barclays Accelerator powered by Techstars, Applica raised a Series A funding round in January 2020, led by Cogito Capital Partners with participation from Barclays. On September 23, 2022, Snowflake, a cloud data company, completed its acquisition of Applica for approximately $175 million. The acquisition was intended to enhance Snowflake's capabilities in processing unstructured data within its Data Cloud, enabling customers to derive insights from documents, emails, and other text-based sources.
