Ancient Nutrition provides whole food-based nutritional supplements, founded in 2016 by Jordan Rubin and Dr. Josh Axe. The founders established the company based on their personal health experiences and a shared belief in the power of superfoods to create high-quality supplements they felt were missing from the market. Rubin is a natural health expert, author of “The Maker’s Diet,” and the founder of Garden of Life and Beyond Organic. Dr. Axe is a doctor of natural medicine, chiropractor, clinical nutritionist, and creator of the natural health website DrAxe.com.

The company's business model is centered on producing and selling a wide range of nutritional products directly to consumers online and through retail partners like Whole Foods, Sprouts, and The Vitamin Shoppe. Their product line includes bone broth protein, multi-collagen protein, probiotics, and herbal formulas, which are formulated using principles from Traditional Chinese Herbalism and Ayurveda combined with modern research. Key product features include the use of multiple collagen sources (bovine, chicken, fish, and eggshell membrane), the inclusion of soil-based organism (SBO) probiotics, and a commitment to non-GMO ingredients. In March 2018, Ancient Nutrition secured a significant $103 million minority investment from a consortium including VMG Partners, Hillhouse Capital, and ICONIQ Capital to accelerate its growth.

A core tenet of Ancient Nutrition's operation is its commitment to regenerative agriculture. Through its R.A.N.C.H. Project (Regenerative Agriculture, Nutrition, and Climate Health), the company dedicates 1% of its revenue to farming practices that aim to rebuild soil organic matter and restore biodiversity. This initiative is put into practice on over 4,000 acres of founder-owned, Regenerative Organic Certified® farms in Tennessee and Missouri, where many ingredients for their products are grown. This focus on sustainability extends to sourcing and producing the world's first triple-certified (Regenerative Organic Certified®, USDA Organic, and Non-GMO) nutritional supplements.
