Amplifon
A global leader in the hearing care retail market
About Amplifon
In 1950 Milan, a mission-driven enterprise was born from the aftermath of war. Algernon Charles Holland, a British engineer and former army major, founded Amplifon to help people who suffered hearing damage during World War II. Starting in a small lab, the company aimed to address a widespread problem by providing hearing care solutions. The company grew steadily, establishing itself as the market leader in Italy. A key move was the creation of the Centre for Research and Studies in 1971, which focused on advancing audiology and otology research. By the 1990s, Amplifon was innovating with the introduction of the first digital hearing aids in Italy. This period also marked the beginning of its international expansion, which accelerated with the strategic acquisition of Miracle-Ear in 1999, providing a crucial entry into the North American market. The next major milestone occurred on June 27, 2001, when Amplifon was listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. This event fueled a new phase of growth, enabling a series of acquisitions and entries into new markets across Europe, North America, and Australia. Today, what started as a response to a post-war crisis has evolved into the world's largest hearing aid retailer, operating in 26 countries with over 10,000 stores.
