In 1998, in Finland, a country known for its appreciation of design and nature, Anssi Hyvönen founded Amphion Loudspeakers. His goal was straightforward: to create loudspeakers that deliver honest and accurate sound reproduction, allowing the listener to experience music as the artist intended. Hyvönen, along with early partners Petteri Koljonen and Antti Louhivaara, established the company in Helsinki before relocating to Kuopio in 2000. The company's first product was the Argon, a two-way bookshelf speaker that embodied Amphion's core design principles. These principles included using a proprietary waveguide technology to ensure a wide, even sound dispersion, making the speakers perform well even in rooms that aren't acoustically perfect. This focus on foundational acoustic design, rather than electronic correction, became a hallmark of the brand. A significant turning point occurred around 2014 when Amphion expanded from the home audio market into the professional studio world. This move was catalyzed by an accidental, yet successful, demonstration of their speakers to renowned industry professionals. This expansion created a second major business line, with their studio monitors gaining favor among musicians and sound engineers for their clarity and precision. Today, Amphion continues to be privately held, handcrafting its products in Finland and exporting approximately 90-95% of its production globally.
