About Amichi
In the early 1980s, Juan Carlos Amich entered the Spanish textile scene by acquiring a wholesale business. His model was straightforward: replicate the popular cash-and-carry fashion concepts he saw in London and Paris. This venture quickly found success, and after unifying his establishments under the single brand of Amichi, the company began to grow, first with its own stores and later through franchises. The business was a family affair, and in 2006, the second generation took the reins, shifting the company's focus from wholesaling to in-house design. This evolution aimed to position Amichi as an affordable luxury brand. For years, Amichi, alongside major players like El Corte Inglés and Cortefiel, was a staple in the Spanish retail landscape. To fuel further growth, the Amich family sought an outside partner. In 2017, the investment fund Black Toro Capital injected €15 million into the company with the goal of expanding the brand's retail presence. However, the landscape of Spanish fashion had changed dramatically with the rise of fast-fashion giants. Despite the new capital, Amichi struggled to compete. By 2019, the company was facing severe financial distress, leading to workforce reduction proceedings and the potential closure of all its stores. The partnership soured, resulting in legal disputes between the founding family and Black Toro Capital, marking a difficult end to what was once a significant name in Spanish fashion.
