About Ambergen

In 1993, a new company, AmberGen, was founded to commercialize photonic technology developed in the laboratory of Professor Kenneth Rothschild at Boston University. The company's focus was on solving key problems in biotechnology by combining proteomics, mass spectrometry, and light-based control of biomolecules. Over the next several years, AmberGen introduced a series of innovative reagents that allowed researchers to isolate and analyze proteins and oligonucleotides more effectively. The company's core business revolves around its spatial biology platform, which provides high-resolution, multiplexed analysis of biomarkers in biological samples. This technology enables drug developers and researchers to gain more information from limited biopsy samples. One of AmberGen's key product lines is Miralys™, which uses photocleavable mass-tag imaging to significantly enhance the capabilities of mass spectrometry imaging. A significant milestone occurred in April 2022 when AmberGen received a strategic minority investment from Bruker Corporation, a leading scientific instrumentation company. This collaboration aimed to advance spatial biology imaging reagents for MALDI-immunohistochemistry (MALDI-IHC). That same month, John Gillespie, who had been with the company since 2015, was appointed President and CEO, while founder Dr. Kenneth J. Rothschild became Executive Chairman and Chief Innovation Officer.
