Alten
High-technology consulting and engineering
About Alten
In 1988, three engineers, Simon Azoulay, Laurent Schwarz, and Thierry Woog, identified a gap in the market. Companies needed highly specialized engineers for specific projects but didn't always have the in-house expertise. Their solution was to build a business that provided top-tier engineering and technology consulting services. This was the beginning of Alten. The company started by offering these specialized consultants to clients, embedding them within their teams to work on complex technological projects. This model allowed client companies to access a flexible pool of talent for their research and development needs without the overhead of permanent hires. Alten's focus was on providing expertise in sectors like telecommunications, aerospace, and information systems. A pivotal moment in Alten's journey arrived in November 1999 when the company went public, listing on the Second Marché of the Paris Stock Exchange. This Initial Public Offering provided the capital necessary to fuel a significant expansion strategy. Following the IPO, Alten embarked on a path of growth, both organically and through a series of strategic acquisitions across Europe and globally. This allowed the firm to broaden its service offerings and geographic footprint, solidifying its position as a leader in the engineering and IT consulting space.
