Alta Ares is a French defence-technology company building an autonomous AI stack for air defence and ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) missions, used by allied militaries. Its platform spans three layers: air-defence effectors, an ISTAR product suite, and a mission-management software layer, all designed to operate in contested, GNSS-denied environments and to be deployed rapidly by small teams in the field. Hardware effectors include Black Bird, a turbojet fixed-wing interceptor for mid- to long-range engagement of drone and glide-bomb threats, and X-Lock, a multirotor interceptor for short- to mid-range engagement of drone swarms, both using AI terminal guidance under jamming. Its software products include Pixel Lock (counter-UAS detection, tracking and guidance), Gamma ISTAR (real-time edge video intelligence turning drone and sensor feeds into actionable detections), and Cyclops (sensor fusion, mission planning and UAV flight monitoring). Alta Ares positions itself as a sovereign European builder serving an allied customer base from the Baltic frontier to the Indo-Pacific. It raised a €50M Series A in June 2026 (led by Air Street Capital) and was named the first investment of the Airbus-anchored E2D defence fund in July 2026.
