About Adobe Scene7

In the late 1990s, the internet was changing commerce, but online visuals were still flat and uninspired. A company called GoodHome.com, spun off from Autodesk and Broderbund, had a vision for interactive home design. While the initial dot-com venture failed, it was reorganized and reborn in 2001 as Scene7, with a new focus on providing on-demand rich media for the broader e-commerce world. Scene7’s platform was a game-changer for online retail. It allowed companies to take a single high-resolution image and dynamically generate any view a customer might want—zoom, spin, color changes, and more. This simulated the in-store experience of examining a product, a critical step in convincing a customer to buy. Major retailers like Sears, Levi Strauss & Co., and Macy's quickly adopted the technology to power their online catalogs. Under the leadership of CEO Doug Mack, Scene7 became the dominant player in image serving, growing through key acquisitions of competitors like Xippix and True Spectra. The company’s success and deep integration with Adobe products did not go unnoticed. In May 2007, Adobe, the giant of creative software, announced it was acquiring Scene7 for an undisclosed sum. The move was a clear strategy for Adobe to build out its internet infrastructure and offer robust software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions to its massive user base. Scene7 was absorbed into Adobe, eventually becoming part of the Adobe Experience Cloud, where its technology continues to power the dynamic visual experiences of global brands.
