About Aardaia

Aardaia is a Wageningen, Netherlands agritech founded in 2025 by Padraic Flood (CEO) and Michael Henske (COO) that invents new crops from wild plants rather than genetically modifying existing commodity species. Its flagship is the aardaker (Lathyrus tuberosus), a nitrogen-fixing protein-rich tuber the company calls a protein potato, bred with genomics, whole-genome sequencing and phenotyping so candidates can be assessed in silico before planting. The twelve-person team screens hundreds of thousands of genotypes to accelerate domestication without gene editing. In July 2026 Aardaia raised a €5 million Seed led by Point Nine, with new investors Astanor and Grey Silo and returning FoodLabs (pre-Seed lead) plus angels, to expand the breeding platform and accelerate aardaker development.
