The studio launched with over $300 million in financial backing from investors including billionaire Ron Burkle, aiming to produce and acquire four to six films annually and develop six to eight television series. Its business model is centered on empowering creator-driven storytelling through collaboration. 101 Studios generates revenue through production fees, distribution deals, and international sales. One of its significant early deals was a $28.5 million agreement with Viacom for the popular series "Yellowstone," starring Kevin Costner and co-created by Taylor Sheridan. The collaboration with Sheridan has expanded to include a universe of shows such as "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," "1883," and "1923."

In addition to its prolific television slate, 101 Studios has released films such as "The Current War: Director's Cut" and "The War With Grandpa." The company also manages Sports Illustrated Studios, developing content based on compelling sports stories, and has expanded into podcasts through partnerships with entities like Soho House.
