About 10-4 Systems

10-4 Systems, founded in 2012 by Andrew Leto, established itself as a key player in the supply chain visibility sector from its headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Leto, a U.S. Navy veteran, had previously founded the successful logistics firm GlobalTranz in 2003, demonstrating a history of leveraging technology within the transportation industry. Travis Rhyan, who served as CEO, managed the day-to-day operations and strategy. His background includes founding his own truckload brokerage and designing supply chain systems at Exel (now DHL Supply Chain). This combined experience aimed to address the technological gaps in a logistics industry still reliant on outdated methods.

The company developed a multimodal information platform designed to provide real-time supply chain visibility for shippers, brokers, and carriers. It operated by aggregating data from various sources, including third-party systems and geolocation ELDs, and presenting it through a unified web and mobile interface. This allowed clients, which included large enterprises like Anheuser-Busch, GE Appliance, and YRC Freight, to track shipments regardless of mode—including truckload, LTL, intermodal, rail, and ocean. Key features of the platform included dynamic ETAs, temperature tracking, SKU-level detail, weather and risk analytics, geofencing, and real-time alerts. The business model centered on providing this software and data hosting to Global 500 and Global 1000 companies, helping them make data-driven decisions to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance collaboration across the supply chain.

The firm's trajectory included a significant Series A funding round of \$13.9 million in June 2016, with investors including Susquehanna Growth Equity. This period of growth culminated in the acquisition of 10-4 Systems by Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) on September 13, 2017. The acquisition was a strategic move for Trimble to expand its Transportation Management Systems (TMS) portfolio with a cloud-based visibility solution. Following the acquisition, 10-4 Systems was integrated into Trimble's Transportation Segment, with Travis Rhyan continuing to lead the business as an executive vice president and general manager.
